چکیده

VOLUME 84, OCTOBER 2006 INTRODUCTION This work is motivated by a problem encountered in certain mixing processes that employ a centre line injector upstream of a static mixer. Static or motionless mixers have been adopted for a large number of blending and dispersion operations because they offer attractive features such as closed-loop operation, and no moving parts, in contrast to continuously-stirred tank reactors. The two liquids to be mixed (for example, a polymer melt and an additive) are forced under high pressure through the mixer placed inside a tube, and the two liquids are cut and folded repeatedly as they negotiate the bends and openings within the mixer (see Ventresca et al. Casson Fluid Flow with Variable Viscosity and Thermal Conductivity along Exponentially Stretching Sheet Embedded in a Thermally Stratified Medium with Exponentially Heat Generation

The motion of temperature dependent viscosity and thermal conductivity of steady incompressible laminar free convective (MHD) non-Newtonian Casson fluid flow over an exponentially stretching surface embedded in a thermally stratified medium are investigated. It is assumed that natural convection is induced by buoyancy and exponentially decaying internal heat generation across the space. The dim...

Direct numerical simulations of two-layer viscosity-stratified flow

Two-dimensional simulations of flow instability at the interface of a two-layer, density-matched, viscosity-stratified Poiseuille flow are performed using a front-tracking/finite difference method. We present results for the small-amplitude (linear) growth rate of the instability at small to medium Reynolds number for varying thickness ratio n, viscosity ratio m, and wavenumber. We also present...

Numerical Simulation of Separation Bubble on Elliptic Cylinders Using Three-equation k-? Turbulence Model

Occurrence of laminar separation bubbles on solid walls of an elliptic cylinder has been simulated using a recently developed transitional model for boundary layer flows. Computational method is based on the solution of the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations and the eddy-viscosity concept. Transitional model tries to simulate streamwise fluctuations, induced by freestream turbulen...

A Boundary-Layer Scaling for Turbulent Katabatic Flow

Scaling relationships are proposed for the turbulent katabatic flow of a stably stratified fluid down a homogeneously cooled planar slope—the turbulent analogue of a Prandtl-type slope flow. The Theorem predicts that such flows are controlled by three nondimensional parameters: the slope angle, the Prandtl number, and a Reynolds number defined in terms of the surface thermal forcing (surface bu...

Numerical Modeling of Two-Layered Micropolar Fluid Through an Normal and Stenosed Artery

In the present work a two fluid model for blood flow through abnormally constrictedhuman artery (stenosed artery) has been developed. The model consists of a core region of suspensionof all erythrocytes assumed to be micro-polar fluid so as to include the micro-structural effects inaddition to the peripheral-layer viscosity effects, and a peripheral plasma layer free from cells of anykind of Ne...
